Immigration Reform 2013 – New Immigration Law

Former President Bush spoke out in favor of comprehensive immigration reform in 2013, calling for the government to change the law “with a benevolent spirit and keep in mind the contributions of immigrants”

Some conservatives contend that the election results should force Republicans to reconsider their support for enforcement-only policies that do not offer a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants.

“President Obama, acknowledging the central role of Latino support in his re-election, has said he intends to start the immigration debate early next year.”  Peter Baker, Praising Immigrants, Bush Leads Conservative Appeal for GOP to Soften Tone, N.Y. Times, December 5, 2012 at A15.
