A U-visa is a nonimmigrant visa available to victims of certain crimes that report the crime to the authorities or otherwise assist the police or prosecution on the case.
Congress created the U-visa to protect the vulnerable class of undocumented persons that might otherwise be afraid to seek help from the police. It encourages community policing and creates a safer society for everyone.
